MAY at the Oarsman

Let’s celebrate the month of May the way our ancestor used to – young women ran through meadows to splash their faces with a morning dew, young men leapt over bonfires and cattle were dressed in flowers – the final throw off the winter!
The countryside is having a party, hawthorn is forming and the bluebells and dandelions providing the first pollen.
The bees are buzzing and the dawn chorus is reaching it’s cacophonic peak.

May means warmer weather, tempered by a few chilly nights. We like to acknowledge that balance by using asparagus, strawberries, rhubarb, fennel, and radishes in everything from pre’s to main and rich desserts.
