OCTOBER at the Oarsman

The clocks haven’t gone back yet, but the evenings already feel like they’re leaning that way. Marlow is slowly gone from early starts on the river to early nights by the fire, and the kitchen’s following suit. The last of the late-summer plates have made way for the kind of cooking that wants a jumper and a glass of red alongside it.

This month, the harvest brings us root vegetables, the first of the game season, apples, pears and damsons from the orchards around the Chilterns and a kitchen that’s leaning into all of it.

SLOW SUNDAYS

Sunday at The Oarsman means a proper roast, slowly, with nowhere to be after. New to the table this month: picanha to share, carved and served family-style with the same trimmings as the rest of the roast, Yorkshire pudding, all of it. Reservations open until 4pm.

Lunch, Every Day of the Week

We’re now serving lunch across the whole week, not just Thursday to Sunday. Whether it’s a working lunch, a catch-up, or a reason to come in out of the autumn chill, the kitchen’s open for it.

On this menu at the start of the month, a Grilled Toulouse Sausage, Buttered Mash, Mustard Sauce.

What’s in the Shaker

Two new cocktails behind the bar this month. The Oars Mint — crème de cacao, Baileys, crème de menthe and Frangelico, £13 — built for the nights that have already turned cold. And the Mai Tai with spiced rum, dark rum, orange curaçao, amaretto and lime, £14.

WINES OF THE MONTH

By the glass, a Durigutti Charbono from Argentina. By the Coravin, a Volnay. And by the bottle, a St-Émilion from Bordeaux’s right bank — three different ways to drink through an autumn evening.

We look forward to welcoming you
